Hi, I’m Courtney!

In the classroom, teaching isn’t just about sharing knowledge—it’s about building connections. Whether I’m designing lessons or collaborating with my colleagues, my focus on creating culturally responsive lessons and meaningful experiences that help students grow as thinkers, writers, and people.

As a graphic designer who received her MAT, on the design end, I focus on every aspect of secondary ELA education, from interdisciplinary curricula to leading innovative student projects. I try to bring a blend of passion, creativity, purpose, and practical experience to everything I do.

Other things to know about me:

  • I am a Hudson Valley native.
  • I’m a mother to three little boys.
  • I’ve been teaching primarily middle school for almost a decade.
  • My husband and I love to read books together, like a little two-person book club. We’re currently working out way through The Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson.

This workshop was a unique opportunity to, as the instructor stated poignantly in the beginning of class, “think as a teacher and learn as a student.” I was able to believe and doubt the idea of America as a place of “shared fruits,” note what lingered in exercises that we went through together, and think about how to bring more precise and thoughtful writing instruction to my students in a way that is authentic and fosters metacognition.
